#176 - Go to a professional conference (career related) DONE!

Did you do anything this cool
at your last conference?
This summer I had the opportunity to visit San Diego, CA for the American Association of Zoo Keepers conference. Not only was the weather gorgeous, no seriously it was between 65 and 75 EVERY DAY, but I learned a lot too. The conference featured paper presentations every morning and workshops throughout the afternoon and evening. I heard presentations about everything from hornbill enrichment to how to train a snow leopard. Plus we got trips to the world famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park! Suffice to say I had an absolute blast! I also got to meet some great zookeepers from across the country. Oh, and did I mention that the conference was paperless? All of the papers, powerpoint presentations, and other documents were stored on usb pens that we received in our schwag bags. Super cool, right? It was awesome hanging out with other animal nerds like me for a week. But unfortunately it had to end sometime. At least I made some new friends and was able to take away some great information. Can't wait till next year's conference!

#73 - Donate my hair DONE!

Did it feel kind of creepy to be leaving the salon with a 12 inch long pony tail of my own hair? Yes it did.  Did it feel even more creepy to mail my own hair at the post office? Totally. But was it for a good cause?  Absolutely.  I mailed my hair donation into Locks of Love and it felt great to do something good. I don't know if I will grow my hair that long again for a donation.  At least not while I'm living somewhere with 100 degree summers! Now to get used to the shorter doo, I'm gonna save so much money on shampoo! Oh, and for my more observant friends I know that my hair has been short for over two months now but I wanted to wait to post this until my donation was officially accepted.
